Dear Professor Gennaro De Crescenzo,
I’m sorry you were offended by my comment, but it was just a joke – a play on words based on a famous line from the movie The Godfather. However, I do not think it is false or offensive to say that Naples is a club from one of Italy’s mafia strongholds, as it is a sad fact of life that there is a large mafia presence in your city. However, I am well aware that Naples is very beautiful and has many fine qualities and amenities to offer. I would love to visit it some time … although I’m not sure I will be welcome after this morning’s controversy. Many thanks for your email and apologies again for any offence caused. Gentile Mr. Glendenning, grazie per la pronta risposta ma la grammatica della lingua italiana è simile alla grammatica della lingua inglese. La frase “will need to make Manchester United and Welbeck himself an offer they can’t refuse”  forse è un gioco di parole ispirato ad un film sulla mafia MA:  1) la frase  “the club from one of Italy’s mafia strongholds” collega il Napoli Club alla mafia e questo è falso e scorretto; 2) tu hai scritto e confermato nella risposta che c’è una larga  “mafia presence in Naples” ma questo è un luogo comune offensivo perché la mafia è stata ed è presente ormai in molte città del mondo e anche nella tua Inghilterra, come ha scritto anche il tuo giornale The Guardian il 27 dicembre del 2009 (link allegato). Migliaia di persone iscritte alla nostra associazione e in rete si sentono offese e credo che sia più opportuno e utile per te e per il Guardian rettificare l’articolo e aggiungere scuse formali. Dear mr. Glendenning , thanks for your prompt reply but the grammar of the Italian language is similar to the grammar of the English language. The phrase “will need to make Manchester United and Welbeck Himself an offer they can not refuse” maybe was just a joke – a play on words based on a famous line from a movie ” BUT : 1 ) the phrase “the club from one of Italy ‘s mafia strongholds ” connects the Club at Naples mafia and this is false and incorrect ; 2 ) you have made and confirmed in the reply that there is a large “mafia presence in Naples ” but this is a common offensive because the mafia has been and is now present in many cities of the world and also in your England, as also written your newspaper the Guardian on December 27, 2009 (attached link ) . Thousands of people registered to our association and networking are offended and think it is more appropriate and useful for you and for The Guardian to rectify the Guardian article, and add a formal apology . All’editore di The Guardian, a Barry Glendenning.  Nell’articolo pubblicato da Barry Glendenning sulla società di calcio di napoli ci sono affermazioni false e offensive contro il club di calcio del napoli, contro la città di Napoli e contro i napoletani. E’ falso ed offensivo dire che il Napoli è “the club from one of Italy’s mafia strongholds” (“il club di una delle roccaforti italiane della mafia”). Possiamo capire l’amarezza perché un calciatore del Manchester United potrà essere venduto alla Società Calcio Napoli ma non possiamo giustificare le offese gratuite. Antica nemica dell’Inghilterra che contribuì alla fine del glorioso Regno delle Due Sicilie, Napoli era ed è una delle poche capitali culturali mondiali e il club del napoli è uno dei club più prestigiosi del mondo. Come cittadini napoletani e come abbonati alla società calcio napoli stiamo raccogliendo le firme per procedere con il nostro ufficio legale per una regolare denuncia. Cortesi saluti. In an article published by Barry Glendenning about the football club of Naples, there are hurtful and false claims against the football club of Naples, against the city of Naples and the Neapolitans against. It’s false and offensive to say that Naples is “the club from one of Italy’s mafia strongholds”. We can understand the bitterness because a player of Manchester United will be sold to Naples-Football-Club but we can not justify the gratuitous offenses. Ancient enemy of England that contributed to the end of the glorious Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, Naples was and is one of the few cultural capitals of the world and the club of Naples is one of the most prestigious clubs in the world. As citizens of Naples and as subscribers and supporters of Naples-football-club we are collecting signatures to proceed with our legal department for a regular complaint. Courteous greetings.
